Doug went to St. Johns Lambton, Primary School. He left there in 5th Class and went to Marist Brothers at Hamilton. He repeated !st year and then left at the end of second year.
He played rep cricket and rep league and represented the school at athletics.
After leaving school he worked at Reg A Baker sports store. He had a few jobs growing up, Salesman and he worked at the BHP for several years. Shift work mostly.
He was never motivated by money or possession. He always had a paper run for 6 days a week and worked as a lolly boy at the pictures and a trolley boy at the drive in movies.
He knocked around Lambton as a teenager with his best mate Jack Eveleigh.
Doug married Lynne, a Lambton girl, in 1966 and went to Tamworth to live for a while.
Their eldest son Scott was born there and Doug was so proud of him. He thought he was a super hero to have a son like Scott.
With the birth of their second son Craig Doug soon realised that all parents feel like that and was just as proud of Craig.
Their third son Adam was born in 1972.
When they lost Adam in 1992 their world was torn apart. This grief made them stronger. A light went out in Doug's eyes when they lost Adam and it took a long time for that light to gradually come back. It was the birth of his first grandchild, Jack Adam, that gradually brought back the Doug we all knew and loved.
As more of his grandchildren arrived, you could see him come back.
Tori was next, followed by Chloe, AJ, Zane, Callie and Lucy.
I am sure as his family grows Doug will still be an intricate part of that family. He had a special gift of making people his firend and mate.
Doug was extremely proud of his boys and was proud of the way they are bringing up their families.
